Healthcare in the UK
Part of your employment process will involve obtaining a National Insurance number. As the holder of a national insurance number you will be entitled to health care from the British National Health Service free of charge. For more information visit http://www.nhs.uk/. This is not travel or health insurance it is the normal public hospital system.
Doctors in the UK
- You will need to register with a doctor (commonly referred to as GP) in your local area to receive medical care covered by the NHS.
- It is free to visit the doctor and prescriptions are usually subsidised.
- You can only be registered with a GP within the local area that you live in.
- Telephone the NHS on 0845 46 47 to find out which doctors practice is in your area.
- The hospitals have Accident & Emergency centres and there are a limited number of walk-in clinics.
Dentist in the UK
- The UK has two types of dentists you can visit, a Private Dentist and an NHS Dentist.
- The prices at an NHS dentist can be a lot cheaper and are fixed by the department of health.
- However there are some treatments which are not covered under the NHS and you will need to visit a private dentist to have the procedures done.
