New Zealand Visa’s for people wanting to work
NZ Visa’s come under two categories – permanent visas and temporary visas. If you want to live and work in New Zealand permanently the main options available are:
- Skilled Migrant visa
- Work to Residence visa
The Skilled Migrant Category is for people who have the skills, qualifications and experience needed in New Zealand, and who want to live and work permanently in New Zealand.
The Work to Residence visa allows you to get a temporary work visa as a step towards gaining permanent residence. Applicants may be qualified in occupations that are in demand in New Zealand, or may have exceptional talent in sports or the arts.
Temporary visa options in New Zealand are available to people who have a job offer in New Zealand, skill shortage occupations and to gain work experience after studying in New Zealand. A couple of options are:
- Working Holiday visa
- Silver Fern visa
If you’re aged between 18 and 30 years you may be eligible to experience life in New Zealand on a working holiday.
The new Silver Fern visa announced in 2010 is aimed at attracting young, skilled workers to New Zealand.
Successful applicants who come to New Zealand and find skilled employment will then be able to apply for a Silver Fern Practical Experience visa and permit to stay and work in New Zealand longer.
