There are three different legal systems in the UK: Northern Ireland and Scotland have separate systems from England and Wales. These differences also give rise to different training requirements. In the UK there are:

145,000 Solicitors
15,000 Barristers (or Advocates)
7,000 Legal Executives
500,000 Paralegals
Approx. 30% of all practicing Solicitors work in London
