Australian School Term Dates
When do Australian school terms start and finish?
The school year in Australia starts in late January and ends in mid December. The longest holiday break is the summer holiday of approx 6 weeks over Christmas and New Year. Each state has slightly different dates but most operate on a 4 term year. The exception is Tasmania which has a 3 term year.

Most schools have around 5 or 6 staff development days during the year where students do not attend and teachers undertake professional development activities.
