Overseas Trained Teachers and QTS

Overseas trained teachers (OTT) are allowed to work in the UK for a period of up to four years without holding QTS (Qualified Teacher Status). QTS is similar to Teacher Registration in Australia and New Zealand. You can teach in Supply roles without QTS but if you do decide to take on a permanent position, you will need to start working towards gaining QTS (There is a recognition of experience route). It is important to note that it is mandatory that all Overseas trained teachers attain QTS within 4 years from when they first start teaching in the UK. If you plan on staying awhile or possibly returning to teach in the UK one day, it's important that you obtain your QTS.
